Ratios can be expressed as Fractions and

Fractions can be expressed as Ratios.

Changing a Ratio to a Fraction

To change a ratio to a fraction, simply use the first part as the

numerator and the second part as the denominator.

	3:4	is the same as	3 4
	5:9	is the same as	5 9

Remember to reduce the fraction whenever possible.

	3:9	is the same as	3 9
	3 9	=	1 3
	3:9	is the same as	1 3

When changing a ratio to a fraction, reduce the fraction, but do

not change any improper fraction to a mixed number.

	8:6	is the same as	8 6
	8 6	=	4 3
	8:6	is the same as	4 3

Changing a Fraction to a Ratio

To change a fraction to a ratio, simply use the numerator as the

first part and the denominator as the second part.

	2 3	is the same as	2:3
	4 7	is the same as	4:7
